1. Making the dough:

  • We can take a  large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt, and mix them well
  • Gradually add water and knead the mixture until it forms a smooth and elastic dough. Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.

2. Preparing the filling:

  • Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic, grated ginger, and chopped onions. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
  • Add the minced chicken, vegetables, or tofu to the pan and cook until they are cooked through.
  • Season with salt, pepper, and soy sauce. Stir well to ensure the flavors are evenly distributed. Remove from heat and let the filling cool.

3. Assembling the momos:

  • Take a small portion of the dough and roll it into a thin, circular wrapper using a rolling pin. Dust the surface with flour as needed to prevent sticking.
  • Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of the wrapper.
  • Fold the wrapper in half, creating a half-moon shape, and press the edges together to seal them. You can also pleat the edges to create a decorative pattern.
  • Repeat this process for the remaining dough and filling, until all the momos are assembled.

4. Steaming the momos:

  • Fill a steamer pot with water and bring it to a boil.
  • Grease the steamer basket lightly with oil to prevent sticking.
  • Arrange the momos in the steamer basket, ensuring they have enough space between them to expand while cooking.
  • Place the steamer basket over the boiling water and cover with a lid. Steam the momos for about 10-12 minutes or until the dough becomes translucent and the filling is cooked.

5. Serving the momos:

  • Carefully remove the steamed momos from the steamer and transfer them to a serving plate.
  • Serve hot momos with a side of spicy tomato chutney or soy sauce for dipping.
